Under the Living Wage Ordinance
What are my rights under the Ordinance?

Beginning
January 1, 2008 an hourly wage of $9.50 in all businesses in
·
Beginning
January 1, 2009, an increase each year based on the Consumer Price Index.
·
An
offset from wages for tips, as well as health and child care benefits.
·
No
retaliation for exercising rights under the Ordinance.
·
No
contracting portions of the employer’s operation or leasing portions of
its property to avoid the requirements of the Ordinance.
Who is covered under the Ordinance?
·
Businesses
and non-profits within the city limits that employ full-time, part-time,
contract, or temporary workers.
Who is excluded from the Ordinance?
·
Student
interns, work study students, and apprentices with non-profits.
·
Non-profit
organizations whose primary source of funds is from Medicaid waivers.
What can I do if my rights are violated?
·
Contact the network! We will walk you through the process and
help make sure your rights are protected.
·
Complain
to the City Manager, who is authorized to enforce the ordinance.
·
Complain
to the City Attorney, because violating the ordinance is a crime.
·
File
a lawsuit against your employer. You can recover attorneys fees and up to three
times your lost wages. A lawsuit can be brought on
behalf of a group of people or an individual.
